Easy to make and easy to enjoy, these crushed potatoes are first simmered on the stove and then brought out to the backyard to get griddled and served up with the rest of your meal. Season and pair them however you want, because these potatoes are sure to be a 'smashing' success.
Simmer raw potatoes on the stove in water until fork tender. Drain and allow to come to room temperature.
Preheat your gas flat top griddle to medium-high heat.
Using the palm of your hand, press the potatoes down enough to create a disc shape. They should be about ½-¾ of an inch thick after smashing and flat on both sides.
Season the potatoes with salt and pepper and any other spices of your choice.
Melt butter on your griddle’s surface and add the potatoes.
Griddle for 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
Remove from griddle and allow to rest for 5-6 minutes before serving.
