A spin on a Southern staple, this Roasted Okra recipe is sure to convert even the most stalwart okra hater. Not only is it delicious, but this quick and easy side pulls together in less than 20 minutes and is a healthy, tasty dish to serve to your family.

Simple and delicious, Roasted Okra celebrates the flavors of this traditional Southern vegetable without compromising its irresistibly crisp texture. A signature Southern ingredient, okra adds fresh, earthy flavors to gumbo and stews. Roasting the okra on the grill enhances its sultry flavor while creating crisp, caramelized edges that will convert any okra critic. Serve with eggs for a healthy breakfast, as a side dish, or alone as a healthy and easy snack.

This recipe calls for the okra to be roasted on the grill, so along with corn it can be a complimentary side dish that will pair well with barbecued chicken or grilled fish.

Note: It is recommended to use Georgia Pecan Hardwood Pellets with this recipe.

This recipe uses Champion Chicken Seasoning.

  1. Add the okra, olive oil, and Champion Chicken to a large mixing bowl and toss well to coat the okra. Once the okra is coated, place it into a grill basket.
  2. Fire up your Louisiana Grill and set the temperature to 450°F. If you’re using a gas or charcoal grill, set it up for direct, high heat.
  3. Place the grill basket directly on the center of the grill and grill the okra for 5 minutes, shaking the basket with a pair of tongs occasionally, until the okra is blistered and charred in some spots.
  4. Remove the okra from the grill and squeeze the juice from ½ of a lemon over the top. Serve immediately.
