Cooking Instructions

Add a little flair to a southern favorite with this Spicy Southern Chicken Fried Steak! This delicious comfort food is perfect any time, whether it’s a special occasion or just a relaxing weekend with your family. Serve this crispy steak with creamy gravy and potatoes for a full Southern dinner!

This recipe results in that classic, crunchy country crust that along with the tender cube steak, melts in your mouth with each bite. With a dose of cayenne pepper and Louisiana Grills’ own Chophouse Steak Seasoning , this is one southern dish that delivers a kick!

Note: It is recommended to use Texas Mesquite Hardwood Pellets with this recipe.

  1. Place cube steaks onto cutting board and season both sides with Chop House Seasoning generously.
  2. Place 1 cup of flour into a bowl, set aside. Crack 3 eggs and add 1 cup of milk into another bowl, whisk and set aside. In a third bowl, add 1 cup of flour, cayenne pepper, 1 tsp Chop House Seasoning, and the crushed saltine crackers. Mix and set aside.
  3. Dredge cubed steak in flour, dip in egg mixture, and then coat with Saltine mixture.
  4. Fire up your Louisiana Grill and set the temperature to 350°F. If you’re using a gas or charcoal grill, set it up for medium heat. Set a cast iron pan on the grill and pour about ½ inch of flavorless oil into the pan. Insert a temperature probe into the oil and allow the pan to preheat until the oil reaches 300°F, then place the chicken fried steak into the pan.
  5. Once the oil comes up to temperature, fry the steaks in 2 batches for about 3-5 minutes per side, or until the steaks are golden brown and crispy. Remove steak to a paper towel-lined baking sheet.
  6. Optional gravy step: Place butter into the pan, and add flour to pan and cook over medium heat for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thick. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  7. To serve, pour the gravy over the steaks and sprinkle with extra Chop House Seasoning if desired.
